João Marques de Azevedo

João Marques de Azevedo holds a bachelor’s in Political Science and International Relations from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA University of Lisbon) and a Master’s in International and European Law from the NOVA School of Law. His dissertation, entitled “The Principle of Common Heritage of Humankind in the Law of Outer Space”, received a score of 18 (out of 20).

PhD Student at the NOVA School of Law, his research focuses on space resource activities and benefit-sharing mechanisms. FCT Scholarship holder. Researcher at CEDIS (R&D Centre on Law & Society).

Attended the “European Centre for Space Law Summer Course on Space Law and Policy” (2018), where he won the Best Oralist Award.

He was the Assistant Faculty Advisor of NOVA School of Law team at the Manfred Lachs Moot Court Competition in 2020 and 2021.

João is a member and NPOC for the ECSL. Prospective-member of the International Institute of Space Law. In 2019/2020 he was an intern at the Member States Relations and Partnerships Office (DG-SM) of the European Space Agency.
